Abstract : Development of individuals and progress of the society is possible only through the process of education. A socially efficient individual can contribute a lot to the society and can enlighten the world in a beautiful way. Teachers are the real creators of such type of wisdom and can make miracles in the field of education. While undertaking this study, the investigator had in mind to analyses each lesson in the 8th Standard Malayalam textbook of Kerala in order to assess their role in imparting and promoting values. the investigator felt that the present text books of Malayalam language is adequate, to a great extent, in inculcating various values in children. There is a blending of moral, social, spiritual, intellectual, aesthetic and cultural values in the textbook. From the analysis of the data collected with the help of the Information Sheet Indicating Importance of Values, it is clear that experienced teachers have more value awareness than inexperienced teachers do. The investigator hopes that the findings of the study will enable the practicing teachers to have more value awareness and they may adopt suitable teaching strategies to inculcate values in children .Not only that, if the curriculum designers would take necessary steps to include more value oriented lessons in the textbook, it would definitely create more value oriented learners in the society.
