Abstract
:
This study intended to highlight the effectiveness of Television with respect to environmental awareness. Environmental awareness is multi dimensional. Normative survey method was adopted in this study. A sample of 100 eleventh students was drawn from four higher secondary schools of Mannargudi block in Thiruvarur District. The data were collected with the help of the tool designed by the researchers. The results of the study indicate that all the students have the habit of TV viewing. 76 \% of students have the habit of watching TV news, around 84 \% of students acquire more environmental awareness through TV, there is no significant difference between boys and girls in terms of the dimension Land Pollution, Noise Pollution, Preventive measures, Scientific Information's and there is a significant difference between boys and girls with respect to air pollution, water pollution health and hygiene. Thus the study provides a vivid picture of the role of Television in creating environmental awareness among higher secondary school students.
