Author Name : Irena Papa
Abstract : Speaking foreign languages nowadays is a must all over the world more than ever. This, because of the global world we are living in and because of the increased people mobility. But, in order to interact and communicate successfully in a foreign environment with people from different cultural backgrounds who speak a different language, mastering a foreign language is not enough. In order to become successful communicators we should not only learn a language by focusing on the four skills i.e. reading, writing, speaking and listening, but we should also learn about the culture of the target language. And learning just some fact and figures about this culture and country is not enough. It is responsibility of teachers to engage their students in culture learning along with language learning. This way they will help their students overcome the prejudices that might exist about the target culture and the dominance of their culture. In this paper will be discussed the relationship between culture and language and the importance of integrating culture in language learning and teaching.
