Article : INQUIRY APPROACH IN DEVELOPING AFFECTIVE GOALS IN LEARNING HISTORY AT SECONDARY SCHOOL LEVEL

Abstract : This study aimed to find out the effectiveness of inquiry approach in developing an overall affective goals in history teachings such as attitudes for desirable intellectual behaviour and attitudes for desirable social behaviour among secondary school children. Pre-test post-test non-equivalent-group experimental method was adopted in this study. A group of 240 secondary school students in Ernakulam district of Kerala state following state syllabus was selected as the sample. The control and experimental groups consisted of 120 students respectively. The investigator has developed an attitude scale by following likert scale which was made up of a series of opinion statements about some issue. The t-test and ANCOVA was used for the analysis of the data. The study reveals that the inquiry approach is more effective than the conventional textbook approach in achieving the objectives of learning history under the category - attitudes.
