Article : EFFECTIVENESS OF INTERVENTIONS ON SELF CONCEPT OF SPECIAL FOCUS GROUP CHILDREN IN THIRUVARUR DISTRICT

Abstract : The major objectives of this study were (i) to design the activities for developing the self concept of students (ii) to give orientation to the teachers on the activity designed (iii) to implement the activities in the class room (iv) to find the effectiveness of interventions in terms of self concept. Pre test - implementation of interventions - Post test Experimental Design was followed in this study. The investigator selected 6 schools from Mannargudi Block. From the 6 Schools 150 students were taken as a sample. Among them 63 students were boys and rest of the students are girls. To measure the self concept of the students, the investigator used DON DINK MEYER self concept test by Dr. Govind Tiwari. The collected data were analysed by using 't'-test and ANOVA. The major findings of the study were (i) there was significant difference between pretest and posttest of the students in terms of their level of self concept (ii) there was no significant difference between rural and urban students in terms of their level of self concept in the post-test (iii) there was significant difference between the boys and girls in post test (iv) there was significant variance among schools in post test in terms of self concept. It is concluded that the effectiveness of interventions on self concept, which was designed and implemented by the researcher, was very high.
