Abstract : Odisha in the Eastern India occupies a special place in the national tribal map for having the largest 62 no. of tribal communities with a population over 7 million constituting over 22% of the State total population. The State has also the largest number of 13 Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs). The literacy rates among the Scheduled Tribes of Odisha are quite low; lower are also the rates among the Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs). There is also wide gender gap in literacy among the tribal. The Bonda or Bondo Highlander is one of the 13 Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) of Odisha. Universal Primary Education remains a distant dream for the Bondo children - over three fourth reportedly
