Abstract
:
Inclusive school refers to an educational setting in which disabled and non-disabled student are getting education alongside in the same physical, social, emotional and academic environment with requisite support services in the form of special teachers, equipments and infrastructure. The essential features of an inclusive school are: universal access, flexible curriculum, small class size, positive attitudes of stakeholders, no discrimination and appropriate classroom pedagogy. The article attempts to discuss the essential features of an inclusive school keeping in view the Indian situation. The essential features discussed here are merely guidelines to apply them in real situations. The article has its implications for school administrators, teachers, policy makers, community leaders and rehabilitation workers.
