Abstract : A Mathematical Aptitude Test (MAT) is developed to identify students (secondary level) who have potentialities in mathematics and to measure their level of potentiality. The test is developed in two steps. In the first step, different dimensions of Mathematical Aptitude are conceptualized through literature review and dimension wise items are developed and pilot tested. In the second step, the final test is constructed and standardized. This final version of the test consists of seven dimensions. The dimensions are mathematical information, vocabulary in mathematics, number series, spatial ability, formulation, verbal problem comprehension and Abstract reasoning. Norms were also constructed. Statistical analyses have verified that the MAT is valid and reliable to be used in identification of the students having potentialities in Mathematics. Types of items, specific criteria for scoring and statistical analyses for verification on goodness of the test are described.
