Article : ROLE OF LOCUS OF CONTROL IN ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF COLLEGE STUDENTS IN MEGHALAYA

Abstract : The purpose of the present paper was to highlight the Locus of Control as a predictor of Academic Achievement of college students. The descriptive survey method was adopted and sample for the present study consisted of 797 students of degree final year, selected by stratified random sampling technique. The tool used for collecting Locus of Control data was constructed and standardised by the investigators. The statistical techniques used for analysing data was simple regression, correlation and ANOVA. The study found that Internal Locus of Control can explain about 97% changes in Academic Achievement and there was a significant relationship between Internal Locus of Control and Academic Achievement of the college students. The study found that External Locus of Control can explain about 24% changes in Academic Achievement and there was a significant relationship between External Locus of Control and Academic Achievement of the college students. Internal Locus of Control had a more favourable impact on Academic Achievement thus, the college students must learn to believe in their own ability and hard work to be a successful person.
